Christians and Money

Money has become a big obstacle to the ministry of the church today. Almost every church that comes up wants money first then other things second but this is not anywhere in the scope of God’s plan for humanity. For Paul had something to say about Money:

These are the things you are to teach and insist on. If anyone teaches otherwise and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching, they are conceited and understand nothing. They have an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions and constant friction between people of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain.
But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. 1timothy6:3-10.

False teachers have the element of the money reaching an extent of putting money first before people can understand God. Christians always want shortcut to the blessing of God, and almost everyone who comes up as a Pastor thinks of money only as way of being successful in the church of God, the pastors today want money more than the one who started the church –the Lord Jesus Christ should be exalted above money but according to today trends money is now bigger than the Lord Jesus Christ shame upon us.

Paul explained in the above scripture that those want to get rich fall into temptation, a trap and into many foolish harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. To him discerned that, people can never get themselves rich because if you struggle alone without God helping you, depending on God you would do any evil to fulfill your desires in order to get rich because you have no regard for God. Does it mean that God doesn’t want people to get rich? Of course Not, But God wants to make people rich through Christ Jesus who has and who is the true richness of God, but many Christians want to deviate from the plan of God to get themselves rich anyway that is not appropriate before God which is absolutely wrong, many Christians are falling into the trap of destruction and money being the cause of all evil Christians have been trapped in the same craze.

God of course would want to bless his people and he loves blessing his people but it must be according to his way, there is no shortcut for God’s blessing. You must walk on his ways in order to obtain the true richness in Christ Jesus.

Many Christians have been deceived by the false teachers of this generation how to sow and reap, how to have faith that money will flow even when you have not worked and they tend to forget this scripture from the beginning of Genesis;

Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life. It will produce thorns and thistles for you and you will eat the plants of the field.
By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return.” Genesis3; 17-18. And this same issue Paul had something to say in regards to the above in Romans;

For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.
We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Romans8; 20-22.
The creation until now groans and it was subjected by those who sinned first from the beginning and therefore it’s still under bondage of sin waiting for the children of God to be revealed in due time. The creation was cursed after the fall because of sin by Adam and Eve, it was a beautiful creation before the fall of man but ever since it was subjected to bondage by the people who subjected to it. God had created everything good but because of sin, everything has been polluted and remember the sin is still ruining many people’s lives even after Jesus Christ has crucified sin it’s so painful. What does this mean? It means that in everything we must pass through the proper ways of God to achieve it in the true way not hijacking riches as we see today. Because the creation itself is frustrated due to much sinning.

It is only through Christ Jesus we are put upright with God again and through him we find the lost way which Adam fell off and led the entire earth and its dwellings suffer groaning and frustration to this present time. This means we must seek God first and the Kingdom before we can obtain his true riches in Christ Jesus, God will not just trust us with his true riches when we have even failed to comply with what has given us in the physical world. Money is not true richness or riches; money is another tool that can make you gain wealth, though wealth can be obtained through inheritance and work hard. As we repent and come to Christ Jesus genuinely with our hearts in contrition we also deliver the creation from bondage because we are put upright with God, our cursed land shall be blessed if we obey our God earnestly and honestly. If we continue in sin then we frustrate where we are supposed to gain the blessing. God will not bless you with his true richness in Christ Jesus unless you have walked in his ways of holiness and righteousness.

There has been a lot of teaching about money in the church, especially about “sow and reaping”. I am concerned that this teaching can make God’s blessing sound like “magic” and the church sounds like a “cargo cult” (One day ships and planes will come loaded with material goods). Many Christians are still ignorant on how God blesses his people, due to that fact the Christians have been deceived by the present false teachers and pastors in trying to buy the blessing of God with money and others things the pastors tell them and this has really damaged the church of God. Many Christians can be deceived that there is December blessing, November blessings and they called to hurry and sow so that God may give them a double portion and such kind of arrangements are un biblical and erroneous which is deceptive.
Can you imagine today Christians are told to sell their land and give to the pastor in order to get double blessing and this is really deceptive and unbiblical, the pastors say that God has told me that sow that car to the pastor or church and God will reward you and sincerely speaking that is not God. God is not God of disorder who does not communicate to the owner. The Pastor has no right whatsoever to ask you to sow in him in order to get a blessing that is wrong.

We received the Holy Spirit who is supposed to guide us to the people we can share with in order to get blessed by God. God does not talking to the pastor especially when he wants a person to give to the church. God will always talk to the owner if he wants to bless his work of hands to give either to one of the brethrens in the church who are in need. But not necessarily the Pastor. It’s written that we must not forget the Levites in deutronomy12 because they have no inheritance but this should be given in accordance with the truth and proper way guided by the Bible and God’s way not the pastors asking for it. God can always remind the blessed people to take to the Levites but not in the way of hijacking and its must not be the pastors to ask such, you see how greed is killing this generation? (Greed of Pastors in the church today)

We must understand that there are only three ways that God can give money to a Christian.
1. Work /Job/Business.
God can bless our work. If a person is an employee, they may be given extra hours, a bonus, an increase in pay, or a big redundancy cheque. If the Christian is self-employed, God can bless them by developing their business. If the Christian is an investor, God can bless them by guiding them in the choice of good investments. In each case, the Christian has to be diligent and work hard to get the blessing. And the work we have will support us in the ministry and also it must be subjected to pray and dedication to God in order to rebuke the devourer the devil who doesn’t own anything but steals from lazy Christians who do not know what God has given freely to his people in Christ Jesus, through the Holy Spirit we can know the deep things of God.

2. Unique way( Miracle)
God can use a miracle to provide money. When Jesus needed money to pay the temple tax, he sent Peter to catch a fish. Peter found a coin in the fish’s mouth (Matt 17:27). In this situation, God used a miracle to provide Peter and Jesus with money. This kind of miracle is relatively rare, even for Jesus. His needs were mostly provided by his supporters (Luke 8:3).
In this case, I presume that God did not create a totally new coin (this would have been inflationary). Rather, a fisherman must have lost a coin overboard and the fish must have swallowed it. The miracle was in leading Peter to the fish, not in creating the coin. Elijah being fed by the ravens is a similar type of miracle (1 Kings, 17:5, 6).
Sometimes when people are in desperate situations, God does provide for his people through creative miracles. The best example is the feeding of the five thousand (Luke 9:13-17) and the feeding of the one hundred (2 Kings 4:42-44). Other examples are the widow’s oil and flour used to feed Elijah (1 Kings 17:5,6) and the widow’s jar of oil (II Kings 4:3-7). There are two interesting things about these miracles. Firstly, they were to bless other people, and not for the servant of God. In two cases, the beneficiaries were widows (for whom God has special concern). Secondly, God only provided food; he did not provide money. The woman who assisted Elisha was able to get money, but primarily to settle her debt.

3. Sharing
Giving and sharing are at the heart of the Christian faith (Acts 2:45). The main way that God will bless a Christian with additional money is by prompting other Christians to give him some. Sometimes he will prompt non-Christians to give to us (Exodus 12:36). However, non-Christians are not so good at hearing God speak, although they are sometimes better at giving.
Sharing is a manifestation of the presence of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:44, 45 4:31-33).
These are the only three ways that God can bless us with extra money. The first is important, the second will be in rare emergencies and the third is the most common. This means that there is no “easy money”. When praying about money problems, Christians often expect that God will answer with a creative miracle. As this is not the normal way that God works, they are often disappointed feel offended after that long prayer without success. He will more often use one of the other two methods.
Paul often received financial support from other Christians (method 3). God may have sent an occasional storm to damage people’s tents and increase the demand for tentmakers (method 1). However there is no biblical evidence that the Lord provided money to Paul through creative miracles (method 3). We should expect a similar pattern in our lives.

Paul clearly stated the principle of sharing in 2 Cor 8:8-15. God has set the world up so we have to share. All people have different abilities and needs, so wealth and income are inevitably unequal. Yet Paul says that equality is an important goal (v13). This does not mean that all Christians should have exactly the same amount of money and wealth. Rather it means that every person should have what they need. People have different needs. Like the manna, no one should have more than they need or less than they need (v.14-15).
God has left us with a dilemma. How can we achieve this type of equality in a world that is inherently unequal? Most human philosophers have agreed with this goal, but they don’t agree on how it should be achieved. Robin Hood tried to achieve it, by robbing the rich and giving to the poor. Socialists try and achieve it by taxing the rich and giving benefits to the poor. Neither of these methods has worked.
The Christian answer to the dilemma of equality in an unequal world is sharing. Those who have more than they need should give to those who don’t have all that they need. This behaviour was modelled by Jesus, who was rich, but became poor, so that we might become rich (v. 9). Christians who are rich should give to those who are poor, so they have all they need. This is a very radical vision, but the church has not taken it seriously. If we really got hold of it, the income distribution within the Christian community would be much more even than in the world. In reality that is not the case. The church has some who are extremely rich and others who are extremely poor; it is no different from the world.
John reinforced Paul’s message about money in an even more powerful way. He said,
If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? (1 John 3:17)
This follows on from verse 10, where John is talking about laying down our lives for our brothers. He is saying that sharing with other believers is a measure of the love of God within us. Inequality in a Christian church is a sign that the love of God is missing.
Paul gave a similar message to Timothy.
Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasures for themselves as a firm foundation. (1 Tim 6:17-19)
We are commanded to be generous and willing to share.
Perhaps there should be less teaching about giving to the church and more teaching about giving to other Christians. I certainly find it hard to hear God telling me to give money to another person, especially if they have not always handled their money wisely.

Transfer of Wealth
The great irony of our time is the fact that many Christian programs are short of money. There are many prophecies that God is going to take the wealth of the world and give it to the church. I have my doubts about this.
The church in the west has enormous wealth. If we were to total the incomes of all the Christians in the West. it would be an enormous figure. It would far exceed the national income of the Roman Empire in Jesus time. Likewise, if we were to add up the value of all the assets owned by Christians in the western world, it would be a huge value, immensely larger than the wealth of Solomon. The assets of the church itself are also immense.
The modern church is far richer than the early church. Applying the Parable of the Talents, Jesus has given us hundreds of talents compared to the one given to the early church. Yet the early church has done far more with its one talent, than we have done with our hundreds.
Unless we learn the power of sharing, it is unlikely that God will take the wealth of the world and give it to the church. He could not trust us. More likely he is thinking that it would be better if we had less wealth, so we would be distracted by it. He is more likely to take some wealth off us and give it to Christians in the third world, who really do need it.

The Power of the Tenth
A simple example of the power of sharing is as follows. If ten people will give one tenth of their income to an eleventh person (who has no income), that person will have an income which is equivalent to the average income of the ten people supporting him.
This means that ten people can support one person in full-time ministry. That means a church with a hundred members could support ten full-time Christian workers. If some of them are in third world countries, where the cost of living is less, the church could support up to fifteen full time workers. Many of them could be evangelists. If the church was to apply this approach, which is just a variation on tithing, it could have a much greater impact on the world.

In a church that has learned to share, it will be much easier to live out Jesus’ command not to worry about what we need (Matt 6:25-34). We would not need to worry, because we would know that Christians would give to us when we have a need, just as we would give to them when they have a need. Sharing wealth and income really frees Christians up to seek first the Kingdom of God.

God set his standards and principles especially towards blessing his people and he set all this in the books of the law, those who do not read the books of the law lack nothing to discern about especially when the prosperity preachers are teaching wrong gospel.

But this what God said regarding the blessing for his people;
Blessings for Obedience
If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. All these blessings will come on you and accompany you if you obey the Lord your God:
You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country. The fruit of your womb will be blessed, and the crops of your land and the young of your livestock—the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks. Your basket and your kneading trough will be blessed.
You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out.
The Lord will grant that the enemies who rise up against you will be defeated before you. They will come at you from one direction but flee from you in seven.
The Lord will send a blessing on your barns and on everything you put your hand to. The Lord your God will bless you in the land he is giving you.
The Lord will establish you as his holy people, as he promised you on oath, if you keep the commands of the Lord your God and walk in obedience to him. Then all the peoples on earth will see that you are called by the name of the Lord, and they will fear you. The Lord will grant you abundant prosperity—in the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crops of your ground—in the land he swore to your ancestors to give you.
The Lord will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none. The Lord will make you the head, not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands of the Lord your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom. Do not turn aside from any of the commands I give you today, to the right or to the left, following other gods and serving them. Deutronomy28; 1-14

From the above scriptures you can see that the true blessings of God are based on obedience and following his ordinances, obeying his laws and by that you can obtain his wealth and the blessing he has purposed in Christ Jesus. Unfortunately the majority of the Christians do not want to take time and read the law books because they are deceived by the pastors of today so they do not repent, they do not walk in the ways of God and the same Christians are working hard but reaping nothing and they expect God to bless them which is false hope.

I can always feel for them, the pastors never teach if you totally obey the Lord your God and hear his voice you shall be blessed in the country side and in the town. Now Christians only pick the best scriptures of blessings and pray in them even though they have not been obedient to God and of course that is not God’s way and it will not work and expect nothing. You must obey the Lord God before you can obtain the true wealth in Christ Jesus.

Of course someone might ask but why is it that the people of the world have money and we do not have as Christians? The answer is that people of the world have many ways and schemes of getting their wealth, to some could be inheritance, some could be in the crooked way but for Christians are supposed to wait upon God through Jesus Christ by walking rightly in the way that pleases God. If you were a prostitute before you came to Christ, that work must cease away for Christ to pave away that is better in order to be provided for. That is the true way of getting the wealth of God in Christ Jesus. God provides to all this people through many ways only that people want to provide to themselves in many ways as well which is contradicting to God’s way of blessing his people. God wants to bless you extremely but there is a way you must understand before he can trust you with his riches and that way is Jesus Christ but it will need your life dedication to understand God’s ways of blessing since blessing is spiritual.

Jesus Christ himself is a blessing, the Holy Spirit, the Cross was also a blessing and eternal life is the great blessing, we must not think money is the blessing that is short sight of the Christians today. Many Christians today believe if you have got the money God has blessed you but that’s not true and it’s limited to biblical view of God’s blessing. Money has hindered many people not to seek the true riches of God which has lavished on us in Christ Jesus our Lord and savior.

If Christians can understand the principles of God and his standards they will not suffer deception of the false teachers of prosperity gospel. You do not need to sell your land in order to gain God’s blessing. God is rich and he only needs us to be upright with him through Christ Jesus so that he can bless us but this I cannot guarantee you that it will take weeks or months or years but according to your Faithfulness with God’s standard of living you shall be blessed but wait patiently. Do not love simple and easy things of gaining possessions in this life because it will be only a snare to you. Trust in God through Christ Jesus our Lord and be patient while being Faithful in obedience of God’s word in application and humility of his truth. Take your time to purify yourself from sins by constant repentance that is unceasing and pray without losing hope and the Holy Spirit will always guide you.

Those who tell you to give your salaries and school fees for the children that God will bless you double are deceiving you and please stop it and ask for guidance of the Holy Spirit.

I would have much to say on this very subject, but let the Holy Spirit give you more revelation in what you have read and add you more. See that you do not deviate from the word of truth and the way of God Almighty and that is way is -Jesus Christ -to whom we have been reconciled in order to obtain true riches in the age to come and in this present time.
Fight the good fight and contend for what has been given to you until the day of our Lord Jesus Christ, endure all trials, afflictions, sufferings, mockings, persecutions because through them you are made a perfect soldier to God and approved worker of God through Christ Jesus. Do not accept any teachings please take time read the word of God and discern them hold on to the good and object the evil teachings of demons.
I love you all in Christ Jesus our lord who gave himself for us that we may be forgiven before and in the sight of God. Remember I am also the soldier in Christ Jesus who is still in the field of war until the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Peace to you all the elect of God through Jesus Christ and the grace of our lord Jesus Christ plus the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you forever and ever Amen. See that you do not disregard this message so that I may not labour in vain, I would like to be joyous in the presence of our God the savior Lord by which his true and great glory shall be revealed in that day.

I remain Asher Namanya the bondservant of God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ…
